A warm brummie welcome

As we look out of the window of our newly built office, we can see a modern Birmingham developing rapidly right before our eyes, with apartments and businesses literally being built left, right and centre. So what’s happening here at the moment?

Moving from London to Brum

There is a new trend which is seeing some companies moving from London to Birmingham in the hope of taking advantage of the benefits Birmingham can bring to them. Deutsche Bank and BBC Three have seen the benefits of moving here, with the latter seeing Birmingham as ‘edgy’ and ‘innovative’. Both HSBC and HMRC have also recently begun the process of moving to the heart of the city centre, with HMRC's aim to ‘modernise it’s office estate’. Channel 4 are the next company to begin their move here and are currently in the decision-making process of doing so. Birmingham seems to be the new, edgy destination of choice, bringing more business developments to the heart.

Commonwealth Games

At the end of 2017, it was announced that Birmingham would be the host of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, bringing thousands of people to the UK’s second city. Over the next two years we will see a rapid increase in the development of housing and amenities to accommodate and cater for around 6,500 competitors and officials the games will bring here. Plans are already set in place to create the ‘Games Village’ in Perry Barr which will include homes, dining areas, transport and services. The development of these are vital when hosting the event in order to aid us in (as Jon Hunt says) ‘giving everyone a warm Brummie welcome’.

HS2

We already have trains running regularly between Birmingham to London and other major cities in the UK. Scheduled to commence in 2022, the development of High Speed Two (HS2) will shorten the time taken to travel to and from London from 1 hour and 21 minutes to only 49 minutes. Phase 2 will then develop to include Manchester and Leeds.

In the meantime, why don’t you come to see what all of the hype is about and while you’re here pop into our own new development, the Media Works, for a coffee? You’re always welcome!
