Jones and Palmer make business understandable so that people can make good long-term decisions. We help companies listed on the London Stock Exchange explain their investment proposition and support them to align their brand with their stakeholder promises. We do this through engaging corporate reports, compelling websites and insightful brand development initiatives.

Main purpose of the role

We are looking for an experienced, confident, and dynamic studio manager to lead the artworking studio team, based in Birmingham.

Our ideal candidate will have a creative agency background, a high degree of emotional intelligence, be a strong communicator and be willing and confident to engage with colleagues at all levels. You will be flexible and approachable, helpful and accommodating - but always realistic about what can be delivered and able to manage expectations with tact and diplomacy.

The studio needs to serve our clients between 7am and 7pm. Your normal hours will be a 40 hour week, however alongside the Traffic Officer you will arrange cover between you to ensure that appropriate support is provided between these hours to support the team and ensure efficient and effective production is achieved.

In short, you will be the studio glue! You will hold everything together making sure work that comes in, has been properly briefed and well understood. Keeping track and making sure that internal clients are kept informed on progress. You will represent your team and support and recognise each individual team member for their capabilities and skills. You will be responsible for their personal and professional development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To be the first point of contact for the studio, advocating the purpose and work of the studio. Ensuring it is seen as a professional, solutions-focused, friendly, agile and responsive resource
  • Ensuring the correct amount of resource is allocated to each project and that those projects are effectively time managed
  • Working collaboratively alongside the Creative team and Project Managers, creating and implementing workflow and processes to ensure safe, effective and efficient project delivery
  • Ensuring that the team members are sufficiently trained and have the necessary resources, making recommendations as appropriate
  • Full responsibility for approximately 8 studio colleagues
  • Prepare, maintain and report on departmental performance
  • Monitor and assess that the workflow system is utilised effectively
  • Arrange quality freelance/temp cover as required
  • Ensure projects in the studio are delivered on time and on budget

You will also need

  • Experience in the same or similar role with substantial experience of working in a deadline-driven (ideally creative) environment
  • Previous experience as a studio manager is preferable but not necessary
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • A systematic and logical approach
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Exceptional diplomacy and conflict management skills
  • Experience of working in teams and driving efficiency
  • To be supportive and motivating, encouraging communication, creating a participative and involved atmosphere
  • The ability to utilise management systems to accurately assess workflow and identify bottlenecks
  • A strong grasp of project controls; budget monitoring, status reporting, risk and change management
  • Excellent working knowledge of Adobe products (certified preferably), knowledge of html and CSS to support cross media project delivery
  • Keeps abreast of latest developments in software and techniques to improve quality and increase production efficiencies
