United Utilities Group PLC is the UK's largest listed water company. The group owns and manages the regulated water and wastewater network in the North West of England, through its subsidiary United Utilities Water PLC.
United Utilities was looking for Jones and Palmer to work with them to better articulate their investor proposition. This is where we looked to add value to their communications. As part of our review, we undertook a best practice analysis on current communications and benchmarked United Utilities reporting against five of their peers. This outside-in approach led the style and emphasis of the report content.
United Utilities also used the jonesandpalmer.net system – a dedicated Jones and Palmer online editing system - that uses a number of processes to improve efficiencies within the review and approval process. Files can be accessed 24 hours a day/7 days a week and a number of authors can access the document at the same time. Content boxes are locked whilst they are edited, so only one story can be changed at any one time. United Utilities found that the ability to get on with amendments, without having to wait for other people and the reassurance that files are regularly backed up, really helped speed up the process. An expert was always available at the end of the phone if any support was needed. To improve integration of differing media options, we ensured consistent signposting throughout the printed report with appropriate online links.
